POINCIANA, FLORIDA | According to Manny Rodriguez, if Poinciana incorporates, it will become "the biggest city in Osceola County, outgrowing Kissimmee; and the second largest in Polk County, right behind Lakeland." So what's stopping Poinciana from becoming its own city? "Its residents." said Manny, "Most of the residents of Poinciana are unaware" that a delegation of legislators will be coming into town on ...

You should't be too concerned about seating. There were no more than 50 people at the meeting held on the 18th. Other then Keith, his son, and a man from Village 7, there was no support for incorporation. The train has left the station for the small but annoying group who have tried to shove their big government idea down the throats of the citizens.

Last night, Keith Laytham held court at the New Dimensions High School. Unfortunately for him, the 50 or so residents who showed up were overwhelmingly opposed to his position. The group went from a 30 something year old who lives and teaches in Poinciana to a trio of senior citizens from Village 3. Representative John Wood kept Mr. Laytham in check. The meeting was for the citizens to voice their opinions. As soon as Keith Laytham heard something...

Wow, what am I reading? Suddenly, you realize that a city is not the answer at thisdifficult time. So much time and money has been wasted on a "study" that is unfair to the residents of Poinciana. Why is it unfair? Whoever is behind this proposed city set down unrealistic goals using a 3 millage rate. This allows the residents to think that they will have all their needs and wants met at just about no cost to them. Nothing could be further from the truth....

The status quo will always exist if incorporation doesn't work out for Poinciana, but if incorporation not feasible, it seems the community should be considering alternatives for getting our voices heard, especially in the areas of general economic development, employment, and standard of living improvements such as parks and outdoor events/activities.
Early on in the process, I mentioned the success of a process now taking place in Crescent Lakes, whi...

It's obvious those of us questioning the timing and viability of the city are not the only ones with doubts. Even APV's board thinks the timing is not right for this city:
http://www.theledger.com/article/20090912/news/909135031
This train left the station too early. If the city fails for lack of adequate funding those who rushed it to the legislature will be the ones to blame.

I am a Hispanic woman who lives in Poinciana but not behind the walls of Solivita. I was invited to attend the meeting earlier tonight at the Solivita Ballroom but left early. I was disappointed in the infuriating rudeness of the crowd.
These people who live in Solivita are supposed to be “mature” but behaved like an oversized classroom of five-year-olds. The audience was invited to ask questions and, instead, used the opportunity to make statements and, otherw...
